Art Deco and Art Nouveau masters infused the second Poster Auctions International sale of 2017, netting more than $1 million in sales. In particular, auction goers were captivated by a poster by French artist Charles Loupot, titled Cafe Martin. This poster was the only known copy of the design, and it sparked a bidding frenzy.
Artists who embraced Art Deco and Belle Epoque style had a longstanding impact on the world of poster art. In PAI’s second sale of the year, titled Rare Posters Auction LXXXIV, buyers showed renewed passion for the poster masters. Alphonse Mucha’s 1902 series of four decorative panels sold for $50,400, and his first poster fetched $40,800.
