During the preparations for the World Cup in Qatar, the government spent a lot of money. One of the most expensive things that Qatar did was build stadiums. These stadiums cost up to $10 billion.
The Qatari government also invested millions in a new airport. These were in addition to millions of dollars spent on building roads and other infrastructure. In addition, a new metro system was constructed.
There are also new hotels being built in Qatar. One of the largest hotel operators in Europe, Accor, will be managing the accommodation. However, the stock of hotel rooms will be limited to fewer than 50,000. Accor plans to cover the shortfall by building and operating cruise ships and sharing villas and apartments.
The World Cup in Qatar is expected to cost more than previous 21 World Cups combined. It is one of the largest capital campaigns in human history.
According to the International Monetary Fund, Qatar’s economy is expected to grow by 3.4 per cent this year. This is due in part to a rise in the price of natural gas.
Qatar has also spent millions on a domestic professional league featuring superstar players and coaches. These players are paid in installments for a period of 10 years. However, Qatar also faces accusations of match fixing. There have also been reports of migrant workers dying.
The World Cup is expected to bring five million tourists to Qatar. Each visitor will spend about $500 a day for ten days.
